2003 B.Sc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy from, from St Andrews School of Occupational Therapy at University College Northampton.
Between 2003 and 2006 Joanne worked in East Birmingham and the Derby City Hospitals working with Children and Adults with a wide range of medical, surgical, orthopaedic, neurological and progressive conditions within the acute and rehabilitation hospital settings and the community.
2006 – 2009 Senior position in Acute Surgery I Vascular Surgery for University Hospitals Leicester. Produced service guidelines and protocols, supervised staff, Occupational Therapy Students and organised all students on work experience within the Occupational Therapy Dept at University Hospitals Leicester.
Between 2003 and 2009 Joanne has gained the following skills:
- specialist seating assessments
- neurological splinting of upper and lower limbs.
- cognitive and perception difficulties
- assessments to social services as to care packages required to meet client's needs; provided clients with equipment appropriate for their needs; and provided assessments to social services for major housing adaptations as required.
- General Medicine, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Falls and Bone Health, Neurological & Spinal Surgery, Stroke Rehabilitation, General & Vascular Surgery, Hand Therapy.
- During this period Joanne gained extensive experience in working with patients with a wide variety of medical and multiple pathological conditions and the organisation of often complex hospital discharges.
From 2009 Joanne has been an independent practitioner, commencing with Locum Occupational Therapy work covering:
- Stroke Rehabilitation in Derby;
- Neurological & Brain Injury Assessment and Rehabilitation in Nottingham;
- Community Paediatrics in Leicester;
- Falls and Bone Health and Community Stroke with Nottingham City Care.
In 2010 Joanne moved into Case Management to develop her skills in Neurology and Brain Injury, and specialised in Adults with Acquired Brain Injury, Spinal Injury and Orthopaedic Trauma following accidents at work or in road traffic accidents. Instructs were received from solicitors and Insurance Companies to plan client's rehabilitation needs with them and to identify and commission appropriate medical and social support. Joanne has worked with clients and their families on a personal and clinical level, and has a thorough knowledge of the litigation processes surrounding such cases.
Joanne has gained extensive experience of treating both cognitive and physical dysfunctions and works primarily with individuals with Acquired Brain Injury, Neurological conditions, and Medical and Orthopaedic needs. Interventions include assessment and treatment of difficulties with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's), formal and informal cognitive assessment, cognitive rehabilitation, home assessment visits, assessment for, and, provision of equipment and minor adaptations, and vocational and employment suitability reports.
The work often requires producing clients’ complex needs assessments, writing reports and liaison with medical and legal professionals and family members to deliver the various reports recommendations.
Joanne has also gained accreditation as a Fieldwork Educator and has supported Occupational Therapy students on clinical placement.

2001 to 2004 Manager of Occupational Health department for Elkes Biscuits Ltd (now Fox Biscuits Ltd) in Uttoxeter
2001 National winner of the European Week for Health and Safety at Work. Throughout 2002 hosted and led workshops for businesses throughout Staffordshire in occupational health matters
2004 to 2010 Occupational Health Adviser for National Brittania Ltd advising a range of companies throughout Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire, including pharmaceutical, food processing, clothing and light engineering
Prior to her RGN Nursing Diploma Janet was an office an manager at The West Midlands Regional Health Authority, and before that at South and Central Birmingham Community Medicine Authority.
Throughout her career Janet has combined her administrative, management and nursing skills to the benefit of patients, clients and employers. She has always believed that illness prevention, and maintaining good health no matter what an individual's circumstances may be, are key elements to quality of life. Janet has good communicaton skills and organises her work very well to the benefit of both herself and her clients.
